Ryan Whyte is an art historian specializing in the art and visual culture of eighteenth-century France; he has also written extensively on contemporary art. He is an associate professor in the Faculty of Arts & Science at OCAD University, Toronto, Canada. His recent work addresses media history and theory, cross cultural exchange, the visual culture of gastronomy, fashion history, and book history. He is currently writing a book on absolutism and exhibition practice in the Salon du Louvre. His work has appeared in The Art Bulletin, Art History, and Eighteenth-Century Studies, among others.
